Biography
Mais Harb
A Syrian singer, born in the village of Al-Mujimer in the As-Suwayda governorate, located in southern Syria.
Her passion and love for singing began at a young age, when she was brought up on folk songs and the songs of Mrs. Fairouz.
She worked with several international and Syrian bands, where she presented many concerts on Syrian theaters and other Arab and international theaters.
Her studies
began with training her voice on the fundamentals of correct singing since 2000 by Russian operatic singing experts who teach at the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus, until she began her studies at the Higher Institute of Music with a specialization in oriental singing in 2003, during which she studied singing for five years under the guidance of singing teacher Lubana al-Kuntar.
During her studies, she focused on difficult lyrical forms and rare songs that were sung very little due to their difficulty, and for which it was also difficult to find musical notation, which always forced her to write down the musical notes herself.
In her graduation project, she obtained the highest score since the establishment of the Institute in her major, which is 97 out of 100 when she performed the role of “I Wasted the Future of My Life by Zakaria Ahmed – and the song Raq Al-Habib by Al-Qasabji” and it is known that they are among the most difficult things to compose in Arabic music.
Work
In 2008, she formed her own band, the Sayed Darwish Band, led by musician Rashid Helal.
She participated in the theater as an actress and singer by starring in the play “Waiting for the Barbarians” directed by Walid Al-Quwatli, in which she played the role of a singer who narrates the events of the show, and she was the one who composed the written text for singing, and the play was shown in both Egypt and Syria in 2010.
And in a major role in the play “The Way to the Sun”, which was presented at the Opera House in Damascus 2015.
She also participated as a singer and actress in the cinema in the movie “Long or Long Is Our Way” directed by the Syrian film director, Raymond Boutros.
She released her first album, “Khitan al-Shams,” from the Syrian Opera House in September 2016, which includes seven songs and a piece of music, in which she collaborated with a number of Syrian academic musicians and poets.
She also signed a cooperation contract with Universal, which in turn published and marketed the album.
She presented many Syrian series badges to many Syrian composers, in addition to many contributions to the soundtracks of many series.
Collaboration
I was invited by the Algerian Culture Agency to perform a concert in honor of Mrs. Fairouz at Bachtarzi Theater in Algiers in November 2015.
She participated in the tour organized by the Syrian Musicians Orchestra in Britain, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Turkey with British singer Damon Albarn, organized by Africa Xpress in June 2016.
In 2017, I participated several times in the cultural forums set up by the French Analand organization to create cultural projects to confront violence in society.
I performed a concert in honor of Mrs. Fairouz, entitled Peace to Fairuz from my heart, at the Opera House in Damascus in October 2017.
The Women’s Voice Festival concluded in Sousse, Tunisia, in April 2018, at the invitation of the We Love Sousse Association, and was accompanied by the Composers for Peace troupe.
She also performed the opening ceremony of the Tarab Majlis Festival in the City of Culture in the capital, Tunis, in April 2018, at the invitation of the Tunisian Ministry of Culture, and was also accompanied by the Composers for Peace troupe.
I performed the opening ceremony of the Shoman Cultural Evenings in Amman on 28-6-2018 in the Roman amphitheater, the Odeon Theatre.
She participated in a poetry evening in the 22nd session of the Poetry Festival in Jadlian, Tunisia, and was honored by the artist Lotfi Bouchnak at the opening ceremony of the festival in April 2019.
